the questions of children

A little girl looks at girlie with wide eyes and looks at me frowning, and says “what is wrong with her?”

Ah, this is the moment.  The defining moment, the teachable, honest, powerful, and holy moment.

This is the moment God ordained for all 3 of us, girlie, me and this little child.

How do I react?

Do I react in horror, do I react in disgust, do I react in anger, or do I react with holy God-given truth?

Do I react out of the flesh or do I react with a Jesus-driven heart?

I choose Jesus.

This moment is so holy and powerful, it is the moment for Christ to step in.

My offering is a smile.  My smile lets the child know she is valued.  My smile lets her know she can have peace in the midst of her questions and concern.  My smile lets her know that her curiosity and concerns are important.

Christ supplies the words, holy words, “God created girlie different than you and me.”

Truth spoken in love.

Girlie is fearfully and wonderfully made, just as you and me.

The smile and the words of truth open up more questions: “why doesn’t she walk or talk?”

“That is a great question.  I am glad you asked.  God made her this way, different than you and me, but God gave girlie things she can do.”

Words spoken in truth, in love, enlighten curiosity, lighten the moment, and open up more questions.

“What does she like to do?”

“That is another great question.  Girlie likes to sit up and play with beads.  Girlie likes to sing, read books, eat, and watch TV.  She likes to watch her brothers play.  She likes being with her family.  Just like you and me.”

Praying this sweet curious child grows up to be an adult who chooses love instead of judgment for the differently-abled in this world, because one mom took the time to indulge the curiosity, to answer truthfully in love.

Girlie and I changing the world ONE CHILD AT A TIME.

14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; 15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love. (Ephesians 4:14-16)
